Dear Friends,

I don’t need to tell you that unhoused folks in Cambridge face life and death during the colder months. This year, with fewer shelter beds, indoor spaces closed, and Covid-19 raging, the risk is even greater.

For the past 8 years, I have launched the Cambridge Winter Warmth Drive, a fundraising effort to purchase sleeping bags and supplies to help folks get through the winter.  I know that this is a bandaid. What people need are homes. But we must also realize that despite our efforts,  people will be on the street this winter and a sleeping bag may make the difference of life and death.

Over the past few years, I have partnered with First Parish in Cambridge, Unitarian Universalist in Harvard Square, as well as the Harvard Square Business Association,  Central Square Business Improvement District,  East Cambridge Business Association and The Kendall Association, and I thank them for their support.  However,  the majority of contributions come from people like you. People who donate $25, $50 or a bit more.

Our goal is to raise $15,000 by October 31st. Please make a tax deductible today by following this link.   Thank you for your support.

Respectfully, Mark McGovern, City Councilor, City of Cambridge The Staff and Congregation of First Parish in Cambridge, UU
